Karen Refugees in PA

The church I work at, Royersford Baptist Church, has brought a Karen refugee family here to Royersford, PA. We flew them over here, and they arrived late Wednesday evening. A young family, the father is 19, the momma is 18, and the baby boy is 2.

They are staying with a church family for a week. Then the church is paying for an apartment for them. The church has purchased housekeep supplies, food, clothing... everything they might need. They came here with the shirts on their backs - that is it!

Here is a picture from today of me and the refugee family. They were EXHAUSTED, and I feel bad posting this picture! The woman is gorgeous, and the baby is precious. The man is so petite!

And here they are again, with the refugee agency workers, a translator, and the lady from church with whom they are staying.

Meeting them, and being a part of this, a small part admitedly, has been so amazing. I am noticing more the things I take for granted. Such as a pen. I have a container full of them sitting on my desk. Kwet Noe had no pen, so I gave him one. There it is in his pocket. These people have NOTHING, they are in the greatest country in the world, from a refugee camp in which there was no electricity, and sometimes not even walls on the huts! Talk about culture shock!! I can`t even begin to imagine what this all must be like for them; what their life has been like, and what their future holds.

But I do know that, until Kwet Noe gets a job, they`ll be needing some money. And I want to help.

I am organizing an eBay charity launch, with 100% of the auction proceeds going to this young family. If all goes smoothly, the dates for this charity auction launch will be Monday, June 11, through Friday, June 22. The auctions will comprise artisan beads and jewelry. I will have more information about this on Tuesday.

. Thank you for supporting this ever so worthy cause!!

Kind Regards,
Kirsten Slichter
